Tracing the Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol stretches between the two less celebrated coasts of Costa de la Luz and Costa Tropical in the south of Spain. Not so much a site, it is more an expanse along the Andalusian coast, comprising of several towns, resorts and villages of the Malaga province. Booking a hotel in the Costa del Sol could land you up anywhere within a 50 mile sweep; it is a good idea therefore to get more specific about the resort or town you would like to be located in.

The city of Malaga is possibly the most important centre within the Costa del Sol, providing an airport inlet to the many international visitors. It is an animated and fairly cosmopolitan Spanish city that surprisingly remains relatively untouched by the tourism trade. Possessing a wonderful historic centre complemented well by modern shop fronts and restaurant culture, Malaga is worthy of a day trip if you are based in one of the surrounding towns.

Some of the important resorts within the Costa del Sol are the nearby towns of Marbella, Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola. Each has a distinctive personality and crowd, with Marbella being famous for its wealthy, playboy clientele, Benalmadena’s old town appealing to the more culture seeking tourist, Fuengirola’s numerous sea-food restaurants serving the quieter foreign tourists while the beaches of Torremolinos will have you fighting for space to park your towel. Nerja, Ronda and Arroyo de la Miel are some other destinations that would be of interest to the tourist.

Things to do in Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol has plenty to offer its visitors, from picturesque little towns, classy to comfortable tourist hotels, a lively nightlife and plentiful cafes and restaurants serving not only local Sangria and Tapas but also the more international cuisine. In terms of shopping, both boutique stores and the more fun bargain street outlets are to be found.
The Costa del Sol’s most appealing feature is undoubtedly its remarkably mild weather.

The bright skies, calm blue waters and luxuriant beaches synergize into an irresistible combination, offering limitless opportunities for activities all year round. Apart from the inevitable beach sports, plenty of relaxation and entertainment options are available for every kind of visitor. The discerning tourist can hire a car to escape the crowded beaches and explore the surrounding towns; parents with young children to entertain should take advantage of the nearby amusement and water parks; the golf enthusiast could not have chosen a better destination for a choice selection of 45 premium golf courses are located along the Costa del Sol; the younger crowds can take their pick of glitzy clubs to party in, but if all you want is some relaxation in the sun, mark your spot in the sand and snooze till the western skies tell you when it is the time to head home.
