Corfu Island Attractions

The Greek Island of Corfu is believed to be home to the Argonauts when they were seeking refuge from the Colchic fleet, shortly after seizing the Golden Fleece, or so the legend goes anyway!

The holiday maker who travels to this lovely Greek Island will be welcomed by some beautiful weather, especially if their journey takes them anywhere around July or August when temperatures average over 30 degrees each day. If this is a little too warm for your own liking then the other summer months of May, June and even October may well suit a little more, when it feels a touch cooler – but still a very nice 23 – 28 average each day.

Corfu is reached mainly by air and the airport’s international prefix is LGKR, with most of the air traffic will tending to arrive on either a Monday or a Friday, making it a little bit more peaceful during the week itself. The airport itself sits about 3km south of Corfu town, so when it comes to transfers there shouldn’t be very much to worry about. Pretty much every European airline will have some kind of charter service coming into Corfu, such is the popularity of this tourist destination.

Corfu Island has some terrific nightlife available, to suit pretty much any tastes. You can dance the night away at one of the many nightclubs, even stating out until the early morning to watch the sun come up if that’s what you want! What’s more every beach in Corfu will have its very own taverna or bar that will help to keep you refreshed, so for some people they really won’t need to venture far to have a great night out. Although the Island itself has a growing reputation for being somewhat of a party venue, please don’t let this put you off if you are seeking something of a slightly slower pace, there really is plenty on offer in Corfu.

When it comes to sightseeing and excursions in Corfu there is a great range of choice available, for many people they may opt to spend some relaxing time at one of the top beaches, such as Paleokastritsa, Agios Gordios, Glyfada, Myrtiotissa or Nissaki, all of these white sandy beaches offer the holidaymaker a great place to top up their tan, whilst taking advantage of crystal clear waters to swim in. The beach at Myrtiotissa owes its name to the nearby Monastery of Virgin Mary Myrtiotissa, this beach is totally unspoilt – however one word of caution, it is also unofficially a nudist beach so may not be to everyone’s liking.

After a great day at the beach it will soon be time to cool off and enjoy your evening meal, this experience can often be somewhat different to back home, for instance don’t expect to be seated at the restaurant that you go to, it may well just be a case of finding an empty table and staking your claim on it. Once the menu is surveyed and the food ordered the service levels tend to improve dramatically and a super meal event can be enjoyed, very often the locals will want to involve you in singing, dancing and anything else that is going on!
