Complete with its own castle, several world class museums and galleries and an animated cultural scene, Munich promises a memorable experience to all takers.

Marienplatz Munich

Small and compact it may be, but Marienplatz is unquestionably the heart of the city. Deriving its name from the central column in the plaza featuring a golden Madonna standing on a crescent moon, the plaza is also home to another major Munich attraction. Every morning at 11:00 am and again at noon, throngs of tourists converge here to witness the Glockenspiel in action. To the chimes of the carillon, 32 mechanical figures placed at two separate levels spring into action to enact two events from the regions history.

Englischer Garten

A bit of a misnomer, the English Garden features an excellent beer garden, a Japanese Pavillion, a Chinese Pagoda and a Greek temple all scattered around the grounds. The gardens are beautiful and relaxing and enjoyed by both the locals and the tourists. Each season lends its own charms to these gardens so stop by a visit irrespective of the time of the year you happen to be in Munich.

Schloss Nymphenburg
The Schloss stands imposing and aloof, a fitting home to the Kings of the past. Its lavishly appointed rooms are well worth a visit and the colorful stories related to the Gallery of Beauties will keep any visitor well amused. However, the chief attraction of the Schloss lies outside, for the palace grounds showcase the best of the Bavarian landscape. Take your time strolling through the gardens and exploring the pathways through the woods. In contrast to the Schloss, visiting the grounds is absolutely free.
St. Peterskirche
While the church in itself is wonderful to visit, with excellent examples of rococo and baroque work, the biggest draw of St. Peterskirche is its 92 m tower. It is a bit of a walk to the top but once you get to there, you will not be thinking of anything except the magnificent view it offers of Munich city skirted by the Alps in the distance. The panoramas beg to be photographed so don’t forget to take your camera!
Starnberger See
A thirty minute train ride outside central Munich is the lovely Stranberger Lake. Quite and secluded, it presents a beautiful opportunity to take a break from the busy city. You can stroll around, relax, enjoy a picnic lunch and explore the nearby town for some variety.
