map of CorsicaCorsica has a unique history and wonderful landscape which guarantees a pleasant stay for everyone. The island is a part of France, so the rules and restrictions of the EU apply here. The easiest way to get there is by plane of course. Most flights reach Corsica from Paris and other major French cities.

If you’re on a larger trip you can take the ferry from Livorno in Italy and enjoy the wind of the sea. Cruises often stop on the island as well. The climate is dominantly Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters. Late spring and early autumn have a lot of sunshine too. Most people speak the local Corsican language but they also understand French.

The most beautiful beaches of Corsica

Between the city of Bastia and the southern Bonifacio there is an endless line of sandy beaches. Porto Vecchio has probably the most beautiful beaches where turquoise water meets the shore. The western shore is for those who prefer pebble beaches but there are a few sandy gulfs between Porto and Propriano.

There are a lot of monuments and things to see on the island. The capital of Corsica is Ajaccio, birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. The city is very proud of its famous emperor. Wherever you go in the city you’ll find streets, squares and statues bearing his name. The birthplace of Napoleon and the church, where he was baptized, is open for visitors. Every year millions of tourists flock to see the house. The Fesch Palace is home to the collection of cardinal Fesch, uncle of Napoelon. Don’t worry, not everything is about Napoleon in the city. Magical beaches and palm trees make the atmosphere perfect. You can enjoy the sunset from a cliff overlooking the bay.

Bonifacio is on a high rock overlooking the sea. The city is the southernmost point of France, great cruises start from the port of the city. Small boats take you to nearby caves in the ocean and it is possible to visit the Lavezzi Islands. The crystal clear waters make this place perfect for scuba-diving and snorkeling.

corsica calviCalvi is the center of tourism on the northern part of Corsica. The city lies between mountains and it can be admired from the citadel to get the perfect view. The old town is simply remarkable with restaurants offering a wide range of local food. The port is full of yachts connected with a 6 kilometer long beach full of palm trees. The nearby Ile-Rousse got its name from the small red rock island in front of the city. The island has a small lighthouse navigating the ships on the open seas. The old town has many great opportunities to relax with cafés and restaurants.

Saint Florent is the best example of rich cultural heritage in Corsica. The city is located in Cap Corse Peninsula ad it is also famous of the Santa Maria Assunta cathedral. There is a special beach in this is city. The Loto is not accessible by car, you have to take a boat to get there and enjoy the sunshine on this remote beach. The Patrimonio region is famous for its great wines.

Half way between Porto and Ajaccio lies Cargése, a small city founded by the Greeks thousands of years ago. This city has the only orthodox church on the island. Cargése is a part of Corsica where you can enjoy a calm day in the countryside. Spend your afternoon in a nice restaurant to sink into the local’s mood.

If you have some more time visit Sardinia, or take a cruise to the small islands off the coast. Italy is easily accessible, Livorno and Pisa are the closest cities. The Corsican holiday will be one of your best memories!
